Present: Mary Farwell, Chairperson, Marion Jacobi,
Treasurer, Lisa Gillis, Secretary, Amy Lapointe, Library Director
Secretary's Report: Minutes from the October 12, 2004
meeting were approved and filed.
Treasurer's Report: MJ reported utilities are running over
budget- other expenses in line.
Library Director's Report:
- Circulation report was distributed and AL believes circulation
to be down due to closing on Thursdays.
Unfinished Business:
- HVAC:
- Bids will be opened at the Library on Nov. 22nd at 11am. A
walk thru was conducted on 11/8 and only one company attended.
- Vacation Policy:
- Shelving options:
- Meeting Room Maintenance:
- AL presented an estimate from Lemay Painting. She was
advised to repaint every 6 years with touch ups every other
year. Trustees would like to receive estimates from other
companies.
- CIP:
- MF attended CIP and Library was granted $90,000. Next
meeting will be on Dec. 1st when recommendations will be
presented to Town Council
New Business:
- Measurement Tool for staff and Library Director reviews:
- AL has prepared documentation for evaluating staff.
Trustees ask AL to get copy of Goffstown's Director review
forms. Trustees and AL agreed a narrative format would be more
productive than report card style for Director's review.
- Children's Programs:
- LG is working with Vickie on the annual Children's Holiday
Party. This years event will include story corner, crafts, live
entertainment, snacks and of course Santa. LG is asking local
businesses for donations to defer costs.
- Grant Opportunities :
- MF mentioned that Fran Hebert had said Moose license plate
money might be available by grant from the state for possible
use in archiving of materials. MF to search for materials given
to us by another library about archiving.
- Trustees agreed to invite Kiwanis to sell their Giant
coloring books at the Children's Holiday party
- AL submitted a "bonus" grant application to Wal-Mart for
audio books. MF will follow up to see where we are in the
process.
- Uses for Veranda:
- MJ reported how the Nevins Memorial Library in Methuen was
experiencing great success with tea parties hosted outside on
their veranda. Since Hooksett also has a large veranda and
grounds she suggested the Friends group might want to explore
better utilizing Library exterior
- Insurance & the Patriot Act:
- MJ questioned AL about how we are protecting our patrons
privacy. AL reported GMILCS has already looked into the
situation and our automation is adequate. MJ was also
concerned that our insurance coverage is adequate to cover both
the building and the collection. AL will double check on
polices.
- Feedback on Recent Programming:
- AL reported films poorly attended due to the election and
Red Sox games happening at the same time.
- Oral History meeting was well attended, as was the comic
book talk for teens. American Storylines rebroadcast has had
little attendance. AL will reconsider day and time event
happens
- 2005-2006 Budget preparations:
- AL presented a very complete analysis of budget needs for
next year. Trustees agreed that employee pay adjustments were
more important that reopening on Thursdays. New library cards
ordered by AL will be taken out of the 2004-2005 budget on the
automation line. Card supply should last for years. Most budget
categories will remain at or below last year's level. AL used
government estimates to project additional monies needed for
uncontrollable expenses such as utilities. Trustees will review
rent charged to GMILCS next year.
- Budget hearings are January 8 for the Town Council and
February 5 for the Budget Committee
- Adopt a Family:
- Trustees agreed to supplement the contributions of the
staff at the same rate as last year.
- Gift for AnnMarie:
- Haven't heard from AnnMarie
- Options for storage of AED:
- Cabinet containing AED has been installed downstairs near
kitchen
